DIY Zen Garden - Chickadees Wooden Toys

DIY Zen Garden - by Layan Muhammad

From the start of our homeschool journey, creating a space of intention and calm for my children was at the top of my list. Of course, with 4 children our days are not always calm, but I can create small pockets of peace within our days together.

My children really love sensory exploration and mindful activities, so whenever I can combine the two…I take the opportunity. I’ve always wanted a Zen Garden for our home. Then it dawned on me I could create my own, using materials we already have around our home.

Just looking at our DIY Zen Garden instantly made me calm, and my children were so relaxed as they drew lines throughout the sand.

For our DIY Zen Garden we used sand, stones, shells, drift colored pebbles, drift wood, and other findings from outdoors. Our printing tools are made from sticks, which were used to make lines in the sand.

Supplies Needed:

-Sensory Tray (we used our Chickadees Wooden Toys tray, but what every you have on hand is perfect)

-Light Sand (purchased from Amazon, but if you have beach sand even better)

-Oddities like shells, stones, rocks, moss, bark, drift wood, etc.

-Tools for making lines and prints in the sand (we used sticks; hot glued together and wrapped with string), wooden stampers would also be fun.

It’s that simple. Now you have your own Zen Garden. You can take it out whenever you want to add a little calm to your space, or make it the main attraction in a Zen corner.

I hope you all enjoyed this post.
