Set of 5 Tongs and Tweezers
The playful use of tongs strengthens small hand muscles, builds coordination, and teaches children to separate thumbs and fingers. The action needed to use tongs is similar to that of using scissors, buttoning a button, using eating utensils, and writing. Using tweezers and tongs is a fun way to build up those fine motor skills, concentration, and patience. Tongs are used regularly in Montessori transfer work, OT therapy to increase dexterity and hand-eye coordination, and many different early childhood learning environments.
I have included 5 different pieces in this new set with varying difficulty, sizes, and angles. Start with the small bamboo tweezers. They have a wide opening and easy manipulation. As use becomes easier then graduate to a more difficult set. Try picking up different sized and shaped materials. Transfer to different sized containers with large and small openings. Use in sensory play or add to sorting activities for a new challenge.
