Lacing activities help children develop fine motor skills, bilateral coordination, motor planning and visual perceptual skills.

In addition, lacing helps children practice the precursor skills for shoe tying and sewing. Lacing uses the same small hand muscles and coordination as buttoning, using scissors, pincer skills, and hand eye coordination.
